The French artist became famous as an outstanding post-impressionist master who worked in the field of advertising posters and graphics. He belonged to the old family of Toulouse-Lautrec. After childhood injury growth Lautrec (1864-1901) ceased due to a hereditary disease resulting from a marriage between relatives. Unable to lead a full life, enlist in the military, young Lautrec found his calling in art, began to engage in graphics. The artist loved fair fun, a circus, later became a regular at the Montmartre cabaret and brothels, the inhabitants of which were his models.
The painting "Woman with an umbrella" has another name - "Deaf Bert in the garden of Mr. Forest". Berta arrived in Paris to earn money, but after unsuccessful job searches she ended up in a brothel. There is a photograph where she poses for the artist for this work. Dressed in an elegant muslin dress with lace, the model sits in a spring open garden. On her head is a small hat, an umbrella-cane is squeezed in her hands. The master’s work is distinguished by its exquisite color; pink, purple and blue tones dominate here. The peculiar face of a woman is sharply and graphically depicted. The picture is painted with expressive strokes laid boldly and freely, but with extreme accuracy.
